Activities
Many of the activities involve playing games with physical movement and interaction by using conversation skills being encouraged. Sitting and listening activities may also be going on in an adjacent space. Constant movement can be expected and this requires consideration of footsteps, jumping and the movement of chairs, tables and other small items of furniture. The children often congregate in small enclosed spaces when coming in and going outside all at once.
Acoustics
A combination of constant movement and where conversation is encouraged leads to voices being raised to be heard over others. Surfaces materials are often hard for durability and cleanability reasons but they can add to a problematic sound amplification and sound propagation. Maximising sound absorption via ceiling and wall treatment is crucial here to minimise sound breeding sound, reducing the potential of creating a disturbing “cocktail of noise”.
