Printing on wall absorbers is nothing new. However, most of the solutions that combine sound absorption and print use a picture or image; either a graphical composition or photography. Much like paintings in a museum, they build on the idea of focus and tend to require a certain amount of empty space around them. Due to this reason, single-panel solutions can easily lead to visual conflicts and disharmonies, making it difficult to combine sufficient absorption with a balanced aestetic look.

Opaque to light, transparent to sound
Thanks to latest printing technology, Ecophon Wall Panel C/Muralis earns Sound Absorption Class A, just like most Ecophon solutions. By combining a surface finish that is transparent to sound but at the same time opaque to light, even strong and vivid colours appear to the eye.

Repeat expansion as a mean to achieve Room Acoustic Comfort

Ecophon Wall Panel C/Muralis is based on the idea of expansion. Thanks to the repetitive pattern, the absorbers can be applied on a large surface, allowing the pattern to grow and expand in all directions and thereby making it much easier to apply the necessary amount of wall absorption.

To achieve Room Acoustic Comfort, large areas of high performance absorption are required. In most cases, the minimum requirement is a surface corresponding to the floor area of the room covered with Absorption Class A absorbers. Hence, the most efficient surface for this purpose tends to be the ceiling, but sometimes this is not enough and walls become an option:

  • There are buildings and rooms where this solution can not easily be implemented, for instance buildings involving Thermically Activated Building Systems (TABS) or speculation driven office buildings where low acoustic performance ceilings have been installed.
  • Several national standards and guidelines published over the last few years in Europe highlight the necessity to cover more than the floor area. This applies especially to open plan spaces and rooms where speech communication is critical, such as classrooms, meeting rooms or activity rooms.
